Teacher Talk

Current threads:

How do you cope with charges for missed lessons?
What is best to keep between the Trinity and Guildhall exam traditions?

  • The idea of this area is for ESTA members - plus string students at Conservatoire level who might be considering teaching - to share and exchange views on things in string teaching that they really love or really hate.
  • Don't bother telling us that concentrating on exams can distort learning, or that music services should be more respected. We know all that stuff. The kind of thing we want is cool tips on practising scales, why you reckon third position should be banned, or practical solutions to bossy parents.
  • This is the place for short, sharp and pointed opinions. (Say, about 50-150 words.) Your more considered opinions and worked out theories might want a letter or an article in News and Views.
  • Contributions will be monitored, and are liable to be edited and used selectively to avoid actual libel and to protect the guilty. They are also liable to be responded to by other members. That's the idea. Controversy is welcome.
  • You can appear under a nom de plume if you wish, but I also need to know who you really are to make sure you really are an eligible contributor.
  • Here are some topic headings to get you started. Surely something under one of them rattles your cage
